OBC vision
Authentic inclusion means valuing diversity, whether linguistic, cultural, developmental, or academic, and actively inviting it into the learning experience. That invitation must be open, giving every participant voice and agency, and it must create an environment where students feel safe to learn.
Most understand why we embrace diversity. The how is harder. It asks us to welcome exceptionalities, ideas, and methods that stretch us, while standing up for the safety of everyone in our community.
Working with inclusion led me to safeguarding. In conversations with colleagues around the world, I’ve seen schools recognize that they need to do more to keep learners safe, on and off campus. The two fields fit together naturally: both call for attentiveness, awareness of bias, active listening, and close attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.
Building a learning environment that truly centers the student takes all of us, children and adults alike, and the results can be powerful.
